Split Lip Fiction and Flash Fiction Reader Application

Thanks for your interest in joining the Split Lip Magazine family! We have committed, interactive, & supportive fiction and flash fiction teams. As a reader, you will get to know editors and fellow readers through conversations over Slack and on Submittable. We also host periodic, optional literary salons for all SLM staff over Zoom.

Some important notes about the reader position:
 

• These are volunteer positions (in fact, our whole staff is made up of passionate, rad volunteers!)
• Time commitment: 1-2 hours per week (and generally being reachable via Slack)
• Fiction readers are required to read/vote/briefly comment on 8-10 stories per week. Flash Fiction readers are required to read/vote/briefly comment on 10-12 stories per week. (Fiction pieces range in length from 1000 to 3000 words. Flash stories are under 1000 words.)
• The primary work is reading/minor commenting/voting on stories on Submittable.
• Please note that the fiction and flash fiction teams read independently from each other; this means that, if selected, you will be placed on one team or the other. You will not be reading for both genres.
• There are also sometimes optional editing, blog-writing, and project-based opportunities at the mag for readers who are interested.
• We are committed to promoting from within our magazine staff whenever we can. Most of our editors and assistant editors started at the magazine as readers.
• Part of our mission is to elevate new and diverse voices. We are looking to build a diverse staff as well.
